Book Cover Design for *Glazed Window* by Sacha Dubois
Project Overview:
I had the pleasure of designing the cover for *Glazed Window*, a powerful true story by Sacha Dubois. The book delves into the complex lives of women whose experiences and resilience are brought to life through the author's vivid narrative. The design needed to reflect the profound emotional depth and the often shadowed, introspective nature of their stories.
Design Concept:
The cover features a silhouette of a woman standing before a large, glazed window, which metaphorically represents the barriers and obstacles that these women face. The dimly lit, almost haunting atmosphere is intentionally crafted to evoke a sense of mystery and introspection, inviting the reader to step into a world where light and shadow play crucial roles in the narrative.
The typography was chosen to be both elegant and understated, allowing the imagery to dominate while still maintaining a strong presence. The title, "Glazed Window," is set in a clean, serif font, which aligns with the sombre and reflective tone of the book. The subtle use of light filtering through the window symbolizes hope and resilience, central themes in Dubois' work.
Story Synopsis:
*Glazed Window* is a compelling account of several women's intertwined lives, each one marked by moments of triumph and tribulation. The book is set in a time when societal expectations often confined women to the shadows, yet it highlights their indomitable spirit and the subtle ways they find to assert their identities. Through the stories of these women, Sacha Dubois captures the essence of struggle, courage, and the relentless pursuit of self-discovery.
This cover design seeks to encapsulate the essence of these stories, providing a visual representation of the hidden yet powerful lives of the women in Dubois' narrative.
